Benson Auditorium Technical Staff

Who are the BATS?

Ever wonder who operates the lights and sound equipment during school assemblies?

The BATS do!

We are a team of Benson students (and two advisers) who operate and maintain the lighting and sound equipment used during assemblies, dances and other Benson Tech community events around the school.

Also, during the school year, our auditorium is rented by outside organizations and BATS may be asked to provide some technical support for those events. Past events have included town hall meetings for government officials, concerts, and graduation ceremonies. Sometimes, these events require renters to bring in extra sound and lighting equipment which gives the crew a chance to learn more about stagecraft beyond what we do in BATS.

Requirements to Join the Crew

  • No experience is necessary. We train you on how to operate spotlights, curtains, stage lights, portable and in-house sound equipment and more.
  • Anyone can join, but you must be willing to learn new things, listen to instructions, and get a little dirty from time to time.
  • You must be willing to stay after school for meetings, training and events.
      • Training sessions happen on a weekly basis during the fall.
      • Crew schedule can be accessed through the BATS Google Classroom.
  • It is important to maintain a "C" or better in all classes because on the day of events you may need to miss a class to assist in set-up, take downs or rehearsals.

If you are interested in joining our crew, contact Tammy Hite by visiting Room C-141 or Email: thite@pps.net.
